Scorned
Why, I missed you today!
Having walked through that door
And not seeing your smile.
Why, I even looked to see the remnants
Of a friend who welcomed with open arms.
Try I did to ignore your place
Taken now by one unlike you.
Try I did to laugh and ignore
The pain you might have gone through.
But I only tried while you suffered.
And knowing full well how a friend scorned a friend
And having watched helpless, at the hapless one
Or both; I cannot tell.
Soon the pain will fade
And in your place its occupant accept.
But how I will miss you my friends,
Together in laughter and in love;
In the warm hearth of a Winter home
When you opened the door and smiled
With open arms.
